Daughter coming home after TBI Wednesday, I’m terrified and full of fear even after trying to be grateful and hopeful. My heart aches

@tim_goodnews Hi. I do pray. I'll say one for Ariya now.

I can hear your love for her and fear for her through your post. The unknowns can be so scary.

Can I just tell you that you are exactly the mom your baby needs right now? You, just as you are, today. You are enough. You will learn with her and walk with her and love her deeply. You are good enough.

All the best for little Ariya.

@tim_goodnews Remember that young brains have remarkable plasticity.

My mother drowned at the age of three in the 1950s. Her grandfather revived her with rudimentary CPR, after which she wasn’t even taken to the hospital. She was oxygen deprived for so long that she could no longer walk or talk, and Grandma said she was essentially like an infant again.

She relearned everything. By early elementary she’d caught up enough that she was placed with her regular age cohort, though she was academically way behind. By late elementary she caught up. By high school she was placed with the gifted kids and won a national award for a biology research project. She went on to earn a master’s degree and live a completely normal life, and no one would ever have any idea what had happened to her.

Your baby has the advantages of modern medicine. Just keep working with all the specialists and getting her all the therapy you can, and stay positive. She may surprise you with the strides she can make!

@tim_goodnews Praying for your little angel. She’s a fighter! And kids are so resilient. Please give yourself grace to feed your feels, you’re an amazing mom and exactly what she needs to be there and help her move forward. You’re strong, and so is she, and together you will get past this 💪🏻💪🏻❤️💪🏻💪🏻

@tim_goodnews I know I am late to this thread, but your daughters journey hits SO close to home.
A friend of mine is going through a similar experience after her and her 6 year old daughter were in a tragic accident involving a drunk driver in august.

I believe they’re also actually in the same hospital that your daughter was at. (Dells children’s hospital in Austin).

Seeing as this post is from earlier this year, I hope and pray your daughter has made extraordinary advancements in her recovery. I’m sure this experience has been so scary, but I know children’s brains/bodies are capable of miracles.
