My 2.5 yr old keeps barking

My 2.5 year old has been in a barking “stage” for almost 6 months. He doesn’t do it all the time, but he does it every day. He does it when he’s angry, uncomfortable (like with new people sometimes), when he wants attention, to play pretend, and to mimic our dog when he’s barking. Does anyone else have experience with this? He does not have autism, I’ve taken so many screenings. He is shy and has a “slow-to-warm” temperament though. I just don’t know how to address it and if I should be concerned.

@edwin87 My eldest kid would meow, purr and lick himself when he was little. He's 16 now and doesn't do it anymore. Our therapist told us it was my kids coping skill with stress, anxiety and strong feelings. He would even hiss at people he didn't like.

He outgrew it by the time he got about halfway through elementary school. He will still purr sometimes when I scratch his head, but that's pretty rare.
