Q/A for parents: Transitioning from crib to big kid bed

How did you determine when it was time to move your little one from their crib into a big kid bed?
My little one has been sleeping through the night and falling asleep easily for some time now, but I'm concerned she might get up and play instead of going to bed or wander in the middle of the night. She turned 2 years old in January. We have a toddler bed ready to be set up, but I'm hesitant due to concerns about her readiness. Any personal experiences or recommendations are welcome 🙂

@pederson07 I moved them to a toddler bed when they could climb out of the crib. That was something I read in a parenting mag as a kid. If your kid can get out of the crib on their own, it's time for a big kid bed.

@vegasdaisy Ditto...first child hated the crib but loved the bed so that happened early with him and a close-to-the-ground model. Second one scaled the crib slats like Parkour at 2 so...

@pederson07 My daughter was sleep trained at 4 months. I kept her in the crib till 5 years old. I would wait as long as possible otherwise you’ll deal with issues.

You will see - the earliest you do it. You will regret it !

@pederson07 We went from a crib to a twin size bed once they looked too long for the crib, or were climbing out of the crib. Usually between 2 and 3. The transition wasn't too bad. My boys were already good sleepers, so they didn't really get up to play with toys/wander in the middle of the night.
