pack n play safe sleep?

@crossbearer007 When we bought ours it was listed on the website as a safe sleep space. It also has it also mentions "this playard is only for playing or sleeping" on the warning label on the bottom under the pad.

@crossbearer007 US centric so apologies if not relevant. But yes, pack n plays (technically “play yards”) are certified and approved for safe sleep! Just make sure you use it according to all instructions, never use an additional mattress in it (they are commonly recommended and available for sale but not approved for safe sleep), and use a tightly fitted sheet if you choose to use one (read the manual for details on what manufacturer recommends/approves).

@crossbearer007 My daughter slept in a pack and play until she moved to her own room. They’re rated for safe sleep and you can get sheets that fit the mattress if you don’t already have them. The city I live in actually had a program where they gave them out to underprivileged families to promote safer sleep practices.

@crossbearer007 Yes a pack n play (we call them playpens) is safe for sleep with a fitted sheet, as long as nothing else is added. You cannot use the sun cover things some of them come with for sleep though.

@jwd Not all play yards allow for a sheet, and some allow only sheets manufactured specifically for that product. It’s always best to check your specific play yard’s manual!

@crossbearer007 Health Canada says it is dangerous. They are usually ahead of the USA guidelines for these things, for example the rock n play wasn’t recommended for sleep in Canada before it was recalled in the USA.

@achaye4422 This is absolutely not true. The C of the safe sleep ABCs is for Crib, bassinet or play yard. If a sleep space is called a play yard in the product’s manual (a legal document) it is regulated for safe, unsupervised sleep, as long as the caregiver is following all the instructions in the manual (only using a sheet of one is explicitly allowed, making sure the tabs that go from the mattress to the underside of the play yard are snapped tightly, etc.).
