My toddler eats like 8 things and I don’t have the energy to do anything about it

@roman101 Agreed.

No clue why you're being downvoted.

Some adults just have really weird ego or control issues. Feed kids what they'll eat. Simple.

@mimi94 Honestly it just shows people’s true colors. I can’t imagine sending my baby to bed hungry when I have the means to feed them. A banana costs about 20 cents and 5 seconds of work bjt these people would literally rather let a little kid go to bed hungry to prove a point. Utterly disgraceful

@roman101 Completely 100% agree.

I can tell you my child will NEVER go to bed with anything less than a nice full belly. And if that means a PB&J and a banana 15 minutes before bed because she didn't like dinner, rock that sandwich girlfriend.

@mimi94 YEP!! I’m not saying I’m about to make a whole meal 10 minutes before bed or even during a dinner, but you feel free to help yourself to a fruit or yogurt!

@roman101 I don't think having a "full belly" all the time is the end game for us. I want them to get exposure to a wide variety of foods, to appreciate a variety of tastes and textures, and to learn to participate in meals that aren't their 10 favorite foods.

I'm offering them good food. They can eat as much or as little as they want. They get to choose how full their belly is.

@roman101 I don't think so. I'm not "refusing to ensure they are fed." They have access to food and they are choosing for themselves how much they want to eat. Do you have a source for the statement that this leads to eating disorders?

@steveraz Lady your child is 1 year old and you’re gonna be like “they are chosing how much they want to eat and it’s ok if that’s nothing and they are hungry” wtf is actually wrong with you. One day when you’re in a nursing home I hope they give you the same treatment

@steveraz Honestly you’re pathetic. You “need a source” to justify not letting a literal BABY go hungry. You’re a despicable human being. I’ll get you a source since you so desperately need it, but honestly I hope cps takes your kids away before then because you’re a horrible person and parent

@dmhanson511 Same age, similar limited range of food. Whoever is overseeing her mealtime also eats something alongside her, and she gets a small amount of her own. So she has like 3-5 smaller portions of her usual foods, and 1 different food. Sometimes she eats it, sometimes she doesn’t. If she doesn’t, we’re wasting like one adult mouthful of food, so it’s kind of whatever.

We choose to give very few fucks over meals. How stressed or chill we are seems to have no bearing on the variety she eats, so we give her her usual rotation, offer one new thing, sneak in some veggies here and there, and move on.

@dmhanson511 Yes, no, maybe so.

There’s no way to know if your kid will grow out of it or if exposing him to new foods repeatedly will help. I have one extreme picky eater and another who is becoming pickier by the day. Some days I just…can’t. I’m so sick of food waste, mental power waste, time waste.

It’s ok. Do your best for today and you can try again tomorrow or in a few days. I found everyone was in a better mood (including myself) in the mornings and lunch time so that’s when we push the picky boundaries more vs dinner time.

@dmhanson511 We do similar to all of the other comments but my child used to throw food. I now put an empty bowl next to her plate and she can put any food she really can’t have in her plate in there. Reduced the throwing

I found with my child throwing food was a control thing. ‘I don’t want that in my plate’. By putting the bowl there she got the control back. Eventually she started picking at the food in the bowl too over her meal has been eaten

@dmhanson511 Mine was and is still like this. He has about 8 very healthy and balanced meals and that's all he will eat. I've tried everything. All the stuff everyone recommends. I had fed him a variety, I did all the "right " things. He's FOUR and still is like this ha. My second eats everything I cook and it is such a luxury to have one kid that eats, I can't imagine having 2

@dmhanson511 I find my kids are more adventurous eaters if they're not actually hungry. I feed them safe food when we get home 4:30, and then when we're ready to eat at 6 , they come sit at the table and can sample our food, and often they do
