U.K. Birth Registration

Basically my wife and I want to have registered the name before we announce it to family and friends. But we also want to tell people as soon as possible.

So two questions:
1. Does anybody know how soon the appointments are to register the baby after the birth?
  1. Can you make the appointment with your local office before the birth to take place after the baby is born?
Example: make appointment 25th March for 3rd April for a scheduled C-section on the 1st?
We aim to have the name picked out with a final confirmation once we see little bub. So we’ll be pretty ready to go with the name.

Edit: we are very early with this but just trying to learn everything as we go so we’re ready!

@littlesunshine Varies from council to council and, at least for our kids, you had to input the birth date to register, so you couldn't book ahead. Got it pretty quickly with our son who was born in 2019 and had a wait with daughter born this past January.

Get the appointment scheduled ASAP, though, it was several weeks for ours with #2 and then we had to cancel bc we had an emergency, so we ended up needing to go to another borough to do it before the deadline. Which was fine, but it's extra faff.
