Newborn has 10+ poops for the past 4 days. Time to change formula?

He's been on the Costco Kirkland Signature ProCare formula since about day 4. All seemed great for about 3 weeks, but now he's having 8-10 bowel movements per day - a lot of them diarrhea or sharts (for lack of a better term).

Should we wait it out longer, or try something new? I saw there's an off brand of Similac Sensitive at Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, and Kroger. Has anyone had luck with any of these?

If it matters, we also use a Baby Brezza with Philips Avent bottles.

@lisafab It’s probably not cow milk or lactose- it’s the HMOS they add in, can cause tons of wet poops! Even some babies on kendamil and 360 which have HMOs have this issue. I definitely recommend sticking with a cows milk formula before switching to any special type of formula.

@lisafab This happened to my baby!!!
He was on a very similar, if not the same formula, called advantage premium (both are store brands made by perrigo).
I thought the crapping would never end and it was making us both crazy.
I started putting in an infants probiotic twice a day and changed his formula to Similac advance (Im on wic, so that’s free, but I recommend Similac pure bliss if you are paying out of pocket… my baby was on that at birth). He is now down to 4 poops a day max, I’m hoping it will go down further and once they are eating food it should help even more

@lisafab We had a similar situation and switched to the exact formula you have linked (all of those generics are identical) and it helped immensely. It took a few days to fully clear out, but within two days I saw a decrease in the frequency and liquid nature of his stools. Our pediatrician has recommended trying a hypoallergenic but he wouldn’t take it so they said it wouldn’t hurt to try the sensitive. It certainly doesn’t hurt to try it.

@lisafab I’ve used either the parents choice or Up & Up, depending on availability. They’re all made by the same manufacturer and just placed in the stores packaging.

@lisafab I would try something new.

We had something similar. We started out good on Similac 360. Then she started having 10 to 12 loose stools or sharts a day. After about 6 weeks, the stools turned mucousy and bloody. The pediatrician said it was a cow’s milk intolerance and it can take a few weeks to fully manifest. She got put on Alimentum and now poops 1 to 3 times a day and it looks like peanut butter. I’m not trying to freak you out because it’s totally possible that it’s just that particular formula that doesn’t agree with him, but just keep an eye out if the formula switch doesn’t work.

@lisafab Newborn also with watery poops and seeming tummy discomfort with Kirkland ProCare. Also switched to Target Sensitivity Premium and unfortunately it did the total opposite - totally blocked him up and he was still seeming very uncomfortable and pooping little rock solid pebbles. I guess it just depends on the baby! FWIW also using Philips Avent + Baby Brezza machine, so your exact setup + formulas.

@lisafab So weird we’ve been using KS Procare for almost 8 months and we’ve had a few days of diarrhea and sharts. I thought maybe the one we had just opened was bad so we started a new one and haven’t noticed any improvement. I was hoping this is just related to baby food but now I’m worried somethings up with the brand!
