@sab8 My two cents; I think (especially if you aren’t a parent) that it would be worthwhile finding a child psychologist that could perhaps mentor you through this process.
In the interest of success when it comes time to look at publishing, I’d personally (if I were in your shoes) want to make sure that I was providing age-appropriate advice, or had wording regarding mental illness that isn’t overwhelming.
