C section pouch

Did anybody ever have success in losing or significantly decreasing the pouch you get after a c section??

I don’t know if all the tricks are just BS and if it’s just up to genetics, or if something actually helps. I feel like I’m just being naive and hopeful and there’s nothing that will help

I’ve heard of wearing a binder (which I do think is BS), massaging scar tissue to break apart (is that a thing???), and exercise & losing weight

I’m trying to lose weight and have actually lost 15lbs from my heaviest weight. I just hate hate hate how I look in the mirror and I miss my old body (I know I’ll never look the same). I want to know if I would ever be able to have my flat tummy back

@bwell I'm not far out from my first c section, so I can't offer much, but my PT highly recommends massaging the scar every day for 3-5 minutes. She said it also helps the broken nerve endings go where they're supposed to to reduce numbness.

@bwell I’m only 12 weeks post but massage seems to be helping. It looks bad still, but when comparing it to pics I took directly post op it’s an improvement. I am also lifting weights, doing core exercises and trying to eat in a calorie deficit. I am breastfeeding though so it’s hard with the hunger.

@bwell Aloooot continues to improve with the things you mentioned. If after exhausting all of those things it’s still bothersome there are c section revision options that don’t entail a whole tummy tuck situation, they just take a small football shaped section of skin and scar tissue right above the incision and also improve the appearance of the scar itself with plastic surgery stitching. I plan to have this done after this pregnancy if my shelf worsens.

@bwell Scar massage and mobilization is super important! Not just for aesthetics but for core rehab to make sure there aren’t any adhesions pulling.

@iarunner I need more details please!! I’m 22 months pp from my second c section and I’ve lost all my baby weight but still have a slight “pouch” just above my scar. What kind of doctor/specialist did you go to?

@jorge_costanza Any dermatologist really. I live in So Cal,so I see someone in the Los Angeles area, she’s great. She does the red light therapy to fade the scar and the kenalog steroid injections to flatten the scar(mine turned to a raised keloid scar) but helped flatten it out a lot. This helps more with the scar ,not with like extra body fat which I also struggle with in that area .But I’ve heard of things like coolsculpting to help small areas like that. And no downtime really.

@bwell I’m 12 weeks pp and have tried scar tissue massage, lymph massage, and core rehab exercises. I still have a lot of adhesion and retraction in my scar. My PT did some dry needling on it today to see if that helps break up some of the ropey corded feel it has and soften the tissue. She also told me some people never do lose the pouch.

For anyone newly post C-section please please consult with a professional before starting any scar tissue massage. Probably shouldn’t be doing any until minimum 6 weeks pp when the incision is healed.
