Baby monitors?

@samjtomes Babies can cry for 5-10 seconds, it strengthens their lungs… but really they can’t hurt themselves in their crib. The delay won’t matter. When we actually use the WiFi cam as a monitor we either have it up constantly on a google home/iPad/cellphone. Then there is no delay. I also really like the ability to add notifications for motion from WiFi cams. We use wyze

Huckleberry has been super more helpful than a camera to track cycles. Baby naps in the car, or stroller, or at dinner table it’s missed.

@samjtomes I work offshore and for me the ability to check in on baby while wife was asleep outweighed security concerns.

Use the Aqara G3. Not officially a baby monitor. But will alert to “unusual sounds”. Works with apple HomeKit and HomeKit secure video. Connection speed has been fast for me.

@samjtomes We have the infant optics and it's fine. It is crazy expensive compared to others on the market, but it works. Our monitor stopped working one day - well after the warranty and they still replaced it for us, so that is points for it!

@samjtomes Nanit is easily one of the better ones but it's really expensive as well... I heard good things about Cubo but never tried it myself. Our Nanit lasted us throughout both our kids crib days (about 6 years total). Good bang for your buck in my opinion... and they also offer some add ons etc.

@samjtomes Mom here - we have the infant optics. We chose it for the good video quality and closed system without wifi.

We like it. We leave it on mute with the screen off and when we see the green sound bar activate, we know to check on baby. Love being able to zoom in on baby and confirm that he’s breathing, but not have one of the connected monitors that calculates it. Only negative is that the battery doesn’t last all night unplugged and when it dies, it makes a chime sound that instantly and violently wakes me up. Maybe this feature can be turned off, but my actual solution is to just plug it in on my nightstand

@samjtomes Hello,

Regardless of your choice between the models from Nanit, Cubo etc, you may need a secondary baby monitor for use on-the-go / on vacation if your primary one is wall-mounted.

Don't hesitate to check the baby monitoring app Twinbees on the App Store (full disclosure: I'm the creator) and let me know what you think.

@samjtomes We got given an old second hand one that isnt wifi based and it's always done the job, only need it to hear them when in the living room watching tv where they're out of ear shot in the bedroom.

@samjtomes We got a simple radio monitor that just did sound. We knew too many other parents that bought the fancy video ones and were glued to the screens. It didn't seem like an improvement for their mental health. We had friends that bought one of the SIDS alarm ones, but it gave off multiple false alarms, which also caused a lot of panic. I don't think you're wrong for wanting one of the fancy ones, just offering another perspective. Congrats!!

@samjtomes We started with the infant optics dxr8. My wife dropped the monitor part on our hardwood floors enough times for it to stop working. We upgraded and got the dxr8 pro and really enjoyed it in comparison, the screen is much bigger and the quality is much better.

We had our pro for about a year and a half and we got it wet and dropped it too.. and it recently stopped playing sound so we got our 2nd pro and it’s nice to have a brand new one. I hate that we are on our 3rd one but it’s definitely our fault.

The range is good for what we need. We have 1 acre and our house is in the middle and it reaches most of the way around the property!

@samjtomes I’ve got a Vtech non-WiFi and just set it up today. I don’t need another app or access outside the house (somebody should be home w baby anyways lol) so simpler is better

@samjtomes Eufy space view. Monitor quality is better than any other by far.
And don’t get something that relies on your phone. Ok to have a backup (we have Wyze cams running on rtsp firmware so local only), but it sucks to have your phone on all night.
