Baby can’t get comfy in Ergo w/o Infant Insert

We haven’t been doing much babywearing the last 6 weeks or so because of the heat, but previously LO was a big fan of napping in the Ergo 360.

She’s now 4 months, 24” and just past 12lbs and I can’t figure out how to keep her comfortable in the carrier. With the insert in she’s ok but her head comes up really high so I don’t think she could nap. Without the insert she screams instantly and unrelentingly, which i think must be because the top of the Velcro waist strap digs into the undersides of her legs.

What am I doing wrong? I’ve got a shortish torso but I’m 5’5” so there ought to be enough room to maneuver and yet somehow it’s not working.

@chlo2013 Try rolling/folding a receiving blanket to make a small pillow, similar to the insert but not quite as high? It might give her just enough of a boost above the waist strap to help. Does the new Ergo have Velcro all the way around that waist strap? I haven't used one personally but I used a blanket with my old Ergo.

@chlo2013 Use the pillow from the insert to boost her up but not be in just the carrier.

@chlo2013 Some infants need the insert a really long time. Has your sling a hood that you clip up when they're napping?
