Anyone else walk into a big box store and feel like they’re the only ones awake in some sort of toxic capitalist matrix?

@naka “Isn’t what is patently unhealthy pretty objective” Sure. Maybe you’re deathly allergic to peanuts. Peanuts are patently unhealthy for you. Maybe some food was contaminated with e.coli. That’s pretty patently unhealthy for you. Short of that, it’s pretty fuckin subjective...

Anyone else walk into a big box store and feel like they’re the only ones awake in some sort of toxic capitalist matrix?

@mackied This is a classic example of Dunning-Kruger effect in action. Nutrition is an incredibly complex subject. Assuming it is simple means you know less about it than you think. People are not robots you dump fuel into.

Anyone else walk into a big box store and feel like they’re the only ones awake in some sort of toxic capitalist matrix?

@mackied Again you think poor people, people on EBT should have their food scrutinized. I bet the ultra wealthy don’t know how to cook either. Let’s limit sales of caviar, too much sodium. You know private jets serve lots of champagne, bad for your liver, let’s make laws against that...

Anyone else walk into a big box store and feel like they’re the only ones awake in some sort of toxic capitalist matrix?

@mackied She’s in a program that is: A government stimulus for local stores that sell food, generating economic activity where that person lives. Is a moral safety relief valve, for the benefit of society not the individuals in the program. What is “healthy” is extremely subjective. Food...

@mackied You’re an asshole for thinking you have any right to an opinion of what that woman feeds her family.

    Wagon Recs

Also re-reading your question, I did use a wagon a lot with one 1-2yo for grocery shopping and farmer’s markets. It was fantastic as we walked to and from the store. Day to day, like going to a park or a doctors visit or the mall, completely impractical. Huge and in the way. I considered...

    Wagon Recs

@kristih Good luck! I’m so happy that my baby #2 is old enough to do stairs and maybe even carry her own sand pail this year. 🥲

    Wagon Recs

@stormboy1 Ugh I wish there were better beach wagons for kids. Do the beaches you go to have stairs over the dunes? Or are you able to use a ramp/wheelchair boardwalk? Because if you have stairs I’m just going to go ahead and say baby wearing is the way to go. Plus a big backpack of gear...

Father in Law wants to change baby’s name so badly

@creator123 The last post I read like this the future baby’s name was “Sharker”. Yeah no seriously. Sharker. Picked by a toddler older sibling. Vincent is a totally normal name. Popular even! I know two toddler Vincents.

    Gentle C Section

@pringles24 Hi! I had a schedule CS for my second and it was super super gentle and calm and happy. To be clear, recovering from a CS still sucks, but I have a functional butthole which a repeat 4th degree tear can’t guarantee. My biggest regret is not making my husband hand his phone over...

Father in Law wants to change baby’s name so badly

@mogulmama Respectfully, a boundary is not a rule you make for another person to follow. A boundary is your reaction to another persons transgression against you. You ask visitors to not hold baby during flu season. FIL goes to pick up baby. You block him and make him leave. You do not...

How/are you changing what your <5 y.o. does in light of Omicron and the Pfizer vaccine trial issues?

@bcraig_6973 I had my first pre-pandemic and a pandemic baby who has been home the whole time. Honestly it’s fucked up that we’ve normalized American babies being sick twice a month from 12 weeks on. A 6mo is so much better off from a cold than a 3mo, and a year vs 6mo, etc. How many cases...

So am I just never going to wear a “normal bra” again until I’m done?

@hopingforhope I actually hated my cake lace pumping bra. Lace was very scratchy and the flange hole would scratch on those pump sensitive nips. The ick. 😵‍💫

Anyone else walk into a big box store and feel like they’re the only ones awake in some sort of toxic capitalist matrix?

@coufalm First buy $60 of ingredients. Then it’s cheaper to make a $2 serving of food. But you needed $60 to start with. And that’s capitalism.

How/are you changing what your <5 y.o. does in light of Omicron and the Pfizer vaccine trial issues?

@suz85 But we also have loss of effectiveness of some therapeutics. Regeneron is useless against Omni, and it is one of the few things approved and available down to age 2.

How to smell good in a nontoxic way?

@superpeople I guess I’m not sure what you’re asking for. If you want to be fragrant but can’t stand fragrances… maybe you should just settle for smelling clean? Idk why women are supposed to smell like flowers anyways. Who decided that?

How did you reveal your pregnancy to your S.O.?

@narasa12 Uh, yeah, after 14mo TTC and an IUI cycle start scheduled for the following week my husband didn't get anything more elaborate than a shout down stairs: "Hey, We need to buy more pregnancy tests." Because a single 4hr old wandfo wasn't cutting it for me. The next several days of...

Anyone else walk into a big box store and feel like they’re the only ones awake in some sort of toxic capitalist matrix?

@cheesestick I agree and also I think it’s worth noting that those reasons given in your last paragraph are on purpose. Too broke, disconnected, and tired to cook, means you’re too tired to politically organize. Too tired to change the status quo.

Lead content in baby puffs and cassava based foods

@e31 Thank you. So much of so called “advocacy” is really insular and not focused on protecting other children who are most at risk, it’s about protecting yours and your own in a way that sucks all the attention out of this topic. Please scream about shitty landlords, toddlers who can’t get...

    Breakfast supplement

@birdlover99 My kids are not big breakfast eaters either but luckily their schools do morning snack or early lunch. I do yogurt pouches and Perfect Bars, sometimes in the car on the way. Being strapped in means they’ve got nothing else to do but actually focus on eating. But yeah, we can’t...
