Why don’t more people use wool?

@joyful0128 We didn’t have the expense to worry about in the newborn stage with wool since my mother in law made us a bunch of wool covers from sweaters. But they are expensive if you buy them—we’ve spent several hundred dollars now on babeegreens wool covers. They’re worth every penny in our...

    How to dispose soft poop

@phideltbeers We kept a small lidded bucket next to our diaper pail, and poop diapers went in there to be sprayed off at the end of the day. I don’t know why your diapers wouldn’t be able to be sprayed? We installed a handheld bidet and sprayed, it makes really quick work of it and you don’t...

Overwhelmed - want something super easy to take off at home (not necessarily perfect) and possibly also something to wear out or at night

@wisper Happy to answer questions!! Our only real reasoning for flats was that in theory, you only have to buy diapers once because you can fold them to fit any size baby. In practice, we’ve just purchased large flats because baby has gotten so big. The one size technically fit, but the bigger...

Overwhelmed - want something super easy to take off at home (not necessarily perfect) and possibly also something to wear out or at night

@wisper We do ec at home and baby is running around in just a flat diaper or a snapped workhorse most of the time, if he’s not naked. He obviously can’t get the flat off on his own, but he does know how to unsnap the workhorse. We have undies too, which he wears on days when we’re having a lot...

    Off Grid Wool Suggestions

@simply_amazing I promise I’m not exaggerating that those early folds—angel, newspaper, jelly roll—are truly no different from folding dish towels. And it can feel so intimidating now when you aren’t in the thick of it, but once you’ve been doing cloth for a week or so the folding no longer...

    Off Grid Wool Suggestions

@simply_amazing Just because you’ll be hand washing and line drying, you’ll likely have a better time with flats. Because they’re one layer they’re easier to get clean and faster to dry. The folding isn’t as bad as it might seem—there are certainly complicated folds out there, but in my...

How often to change and machine cycle questions

@wallaceb45 We changed before and after each nursing session and changed in between if baby was wet. It was a lot of changes and a lot of diapers, upwards of 18 per day, but it kept baby nice and dry and comfy. We used wool covers in the newborn days, so it felt a bit damp when he was wet. But...

    Baby registry checklist!

@reganne We started with cloth the day we got home, using half size flats. Flats and prefolds both work such that you can either fold down the front or back to make them fit. My baby was born 7lbs and dropped down to 6lbs 5oz at his tiniest, and we never had an issue getting diapers to fit.

    Help me decide-pregnant & planning

@tycoon34 Green mountain diapers does the seconds! Check their mystery grab bags, they often have larger lots of prefolds for really good prices.

Please tell me what to add to my stash to make overnights stress-free (currently using disposables at night)

@mj82 What works for us overnight are extra large muslin flats with hemp doublers. You could also try workhorses. But you’re going to want either a flat or fitter diaper that’s going to give you absorbency all around, and that you can then bulk up with either your doublers or trifolded prefolds...

Prince Lionheart + cloth wipes - bacteria concerns?

@egram Are you absolutely set on using the oo+soap formula? I only ask because it’s not necessary; you can just use water. We keep warm water in a pump pot like for coffee and wet wipes as we use them, which leaves no room for mold and could be an option if this really isn’t working for you.

    Help me decide-pregnant & planning

@theophilus2019 We folded the one size flats in airplane fold. Iirc, we used some half size flats folded in angel fold, but we got more use out of the one size in airplane and then angel. However, we were using homemade pull on covers, which likely fit differently than the covers you have. The...

    Help me decide-pregnant & planning

@theophilus2019 For reference, we were going through upwards of 24 diapers per day (flats) the first six weeks or so of my baby’s life. He pooped literally every hour and they suggest changing before and after every nursing session, so it came out to a lot. I don’t think more would hurt to have...

What does sleep through the night mean and when?

@miltonjs Technically, it means between four and six hours. We felt like we were sleeping through the night when baby would go down at 8, do a dream feed at 10, and then nurse at 4am but go back to sleep until after 7. But your perspective also changes as baby changes and matures. Now that he’s...

Q for Parents who started using Cloth w Newborn

@rui We started from birth with flats, which let you fold them to fit all sizes of babies. We’re still using the same diapers at nine months. We’ve not yet had a ton of trouble overnight (nine months old now), but some people struggle to get enough absorbency and control leaking once baby...

    Cloth diaper stains

@veevalaveeda I don’t think there’s a great way to fully avoid the stains from ebf poo, unless you bleach every load. If it helps to hear at all, my diapers were pristine white again within a week or two of starting solids. The stains wash out after a couple loads, though of course they keep...

Branddddd new and would love feedback on my plan!

@deeppeace We left everything closed ish (lidded trash can with wet bag, so still had ventilation) for months. It only started to be a problem around eight months, when the pee started to get really concentrated and smelly. I personally really like a wet bag system since you can just invert the...

Me again! NB to 6mo stash review! ⭐️🌈

@theophilus2019 You’re welcome, happy to help! We use disposable wipes out and about, and my dirty secret for dealing with them is that I don’t. They go through the wash with the diapers and get thrown away when they’re clean. We started with six hemp doublers and that was okay for a while...

Me again! NB to 6mo stash review! ⭐️🌈

@theophilus2019 Get the cheap flannel wipes on Amazon! I don’t believe expensive wipes are necessary, but I do believe you need a lot, like 100+. Seconding snappis. What’s your wet bag/diaper pail situation, and are you doing cloth out and about or just at home? If you’re putting a bag in a...

    Wash routine reassurance

@highlyfavoured1 The only thing that makes me raise an eyebrow is only washing every 4-6 days. I’d encourage you to keep a sharp eye out for any ammonia stink, especially with your night diapers. If that happens, you can do a bleach reset and then you’d probably want to consider a daily prewash...
