Update: 13w1d official NT scan showed 4.5mm of fluid behind baby’s neck, nasal bone was not seen. OB has referred me to a specialist for diagnosing…

Currently 12w5d with my rainbow baby after an unknown location ectopic pregnancy. I just had my NT scan and the fluid behind baby’s neck measured 6.5mm, waiting to get my NIPT test results back. But does anyone have any positive stories about this happening and baby was completely okay?

@pharbach Mine was elevated one pregnancy and things turned out fine, but it was not measuring nearly as thick as yours. I know there are lots of different experiences with elevated NT measurements on the r/NIPT though, if you’re looking for personal stories. They also have a pretty extensive wiki that you can read through. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I hope you get some answers soon and that things turn out well ❤️

@ebuzi Thank you! I’m going to check it out right now, I’m so scared and just want this baby to be okay and healthy… I really appreciate you replying!

@pharbach do you mind sharing the image with me? I am an OB sonographer. I had a case where the baby had Turner's syndrom and it was a cystic hygroma but I have seen many people say that their baby's was increased and it resolved.

Was this done in MFM or your OB's office? Sometimes the sonographers measurement is actually to the amnion and not really the nuchal translucency, which is why I ask to see the image.

@jackson12 Wow that would be amazing! So my scan last Friday was done with my OB and wasn’t my official NT scan but she measured the fluid behind baby’s neck and it was 6.5mm, she glanced and saw that baby has all major organs (I don’t think she checked for a nasal bone or not, it wasn’t mentioned and I just read about how that’s very important). I didn’t get to take home any pictures from that ultrasound. My official NT scan is this Friday (which is with an OB ultrasound tech but not my OB I see/would deliver baby? If that makes sense?), I’m still waiting on my NIPT results as well. Would you be okay if on Friday when I hopefully get pictures of the ultrasound I send them to you as well? My appt is at 12:30pm and then I see my OB to go over the ultrasound… I don’t see many people with such a high amount of fluid so I’m not sure if my OB made a mistake or if there really is something crucial going on with my baby or not…

@pharbach Yes, definitely send me the pix from your next scan. Again, the position of baby and landmarks is important when you are measuring the NT. The dr could have easily measured the amnion if she isn’t used to doing NT scans. I have seen fellow sonographers incorrectly do this as well.

@jackson12 Hi I was wondering if I could still send you a picture of the ultrasound? I’m definitely feeling less hopeful as they weren’t able to see a nasal bone today (at 13w1d)…
