    Supporting big families

@preston354 Before I quit my job to be a SAHM I was a teacher and my husband a paramedic. Definitely feel you on not getting paid enough. My husband now is an RN and I do a couple of very part time jobs to help with money.

Any ballpark estimates on 8 week NICU bills?

@joeestacy My NICU baby had a 40 day stay in 2021. The whole bill was for about $120k. Our insurance out of pocket max was $4000. We received a statement of how much it cost but never a bill so we ended up paying like $2500 for the actual birth and nothing for the NICU stay. My theory is that...

“No DoNt Do ThAt YoU’LL HaVe To cLeAn ThE DiApErS!!!!!!!” - half our family/friends reactions when I said we’re doing cloth

@elderjamesb At the beginning we had a lot of pee leaks because my baby just was not big enough for even the newborn diapers and I wasn’t mentally in a place to do tons of troubleshooting. But once we got a better fit, and really got started we didn’t have really any problems. We do use...

“No DoNt Do ThAt YoU’LL HaVe To cLeAn ThE DiApErS!!!!!!!” - half our family/friends reactions when I said we’re doing cloth

@elderjamesb I just recently heard someone say they do this and I was horrified. Even ignoring the environmental impact of just throwing away dirty clothes, I was just blown away by the financial impact of this. My family definitely doesn’t have the money to be literally throwing away clothes...

Is NICU follow up necessary when seeing a pediatrician a few times a year?

@kimberly1988 I would at least call and ask why they want your baby to come in again. We did two follow ups with our NICU at 6 months post discharge and 12 months post discharge. At that point they told me we didn’t need to go back because my little guy was developing on track for his adjusted...

    How can you afford it?

@rksharma If I could upvote this 100 times I would. I have kids. I would love to have more kids. All of the reasons people have for not having kids—financial, logistical, emotional, physical, etc. — are valid and I’m not in anyway a better person than they are just because I have kids.

Risk of NEC in 6-month premie?

@saintvron I don’t know the actual statistics but I’m pretty sure she would be okay. At our hospital they only provided donor milk to babies until they reached 35+6. After that they would be given formula if mom want providing (enough) breast milk. At six months I would imagine it would be...

    Would You Rather: House Addition

@kimrossie I personally would go with House B. Having that size of a yard alone would tip the scales for me.
