Recently made friend bathed my child while looking after her (5 yr old)

@nasusnuboc The Aussies/NZers in this thread are going, ‘wtf what’s the issue?’ And we’re parents.

    Cleaning toys

@doomedhyclic The only time I clean toys is when they’re visibly grody, and it’s more about gunk removal than disinfecting. I did wipe down toys from the toy library with disinfectant wipes when I had premmies (twins) and they were very young, but even then I didn’t keep it up for long.

I want a baby- how do I keep a social life?

@daniel83 It’s definitely easier to have friends who are also parents because they have similar schedules around childcare, naps, dinner/bath/bedtime and are understanding when you have to flake because your kids sick or your schedule blows out because of protesting children. It’s possible to...

Recently made friend bathed my child while looking after her (5 yr old)

@davida1949 Adults bathe every day in our house, but kids can be every other day or even longer depending on if they’re actually dirty or if they’ve been doing a ton of exercise or if the weather is muggy or whatever. Kids don’t sweat as much as adults before puberty hits, so don’t get as grody...

Tired of “words I can’t pronounce”

@genxjeff Pick a fruit or vegetable and look up a list of its chemical constituents, and it’ll be full of words you can’t pronounce either. Doesn’t mean they’re bad for you.

How would you react if I rudely, intentionally bumped into your child?

@jared1991 It’s shitty to punish a kid by slamming into him because you’re mad at his behaviour, but also shitty if your girlfriend and his parents aren’t responding to the kids behaviour by trying to teach him a more appropriate way to act. It’s totally normal behaviour for a 6 year old, but if...

Recently made friend bathed my child while looking after her (5 yr old)

@davida1949 NZ here, it would be a non-issue unless the kid actually felt something creepy had occurred. Like if the parent got naked in the tub with them that would be too far, but not just a bath with other kids.

Is multiple children a good reason to ignore scratches, bruises, and bite marks?

@elleho123 I agree with others, but other things to keep in mind might be how much rough & tumble and outdoors play is normal in that family. If she’s an only child or indoors more when she’s with you then she’d naturally be getting far less bruises & scratches when she’s with you. Regarding...

Universal Childcare call to arms! -Mod Approved

@brendawwentz You could look to NZ as a case study, we’ve had universal 20 hours free childcarefor 3-5 year olds since 2007, and an additional childcare subsidy for low income households. I believe UNICEF told them they should extend it to cover kids from birth at one point from an equity...

Adult Stepdaughter is Making Us Miserable! Help!

@juanna It sounds like she has shit self esteem and is crying out for boundaries. Oh she’ll make a right song and dance when they’re laid down and enforced, but kids (and adult kids living in your home and acting like kids) need and subconsciously even want them. You’ve done a great job pushing...
