Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@kyleeak Maybe nothing, like there was a genuine question in my post not a fake one. I truly expected more replies to be either "I use those I am not concerned 🤷🏼‍♀️" or some variation on "plastic isn't perfect but there isn't a perfect solution, we chose to use (whatever)".

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@momof2napril So I think -- you have the same type I describe in my post? Melamine plates, like cellulose from bamboo + melamine? Or are yours wood bamboo & also dishwasher safe??

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@brotherbob I guess our plates are pretty heavy, or maybe my toddler is more clumsy? He unloads the dishwasher with me everyday and pulls out the plates. ~8 months of practice has not prevented him from dropping one a few inches, about 5% of the time. Or maybe my concern isn't real? Maybe he...

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@amazinggrace37 FWIW as the instigator of said terrifying thread, I am personally 1/100 as worried about wood glue used in minimal fashion only to fix large pieces of wood together, as I am about melamine - which forms the entire structure of said plates & migrates from resin into the food...

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@gac5070 Good to know! Yeah, we learned the fragrance-free dishwasher pod lesson the hard way. 🤢 RIP, cheap Cascade pods at Costco, it's Grove or 7th Gen for us now.

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@pennyr I'm kind of bummed because I really like them. Also like, maybe in the big picture melamine is probably fine? I truly was wrestling with whether "probably fine" was enough. I'm on the less crunchy side overall. Plastic wasn't off the table for me. I might have bought them anyway if...

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@andrew6297 Haha, I should probably trust my 2yo more! He is newly fascinated by "ohhh, broke it" though 🤣

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@hansos Sectioned plates!! Woo hoo! Long reply.... I was planning to drop sectioned plates entirely around now (2yo). I was insanely horrible & picky about food tOucHinG and of course I fear training him into my bad habits. So shortly before his 2nd birthday, I put all the sectioned plates in...

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@hanakahiro Thanks this review is real helpful! To be honest I need to replace everything. 10 year old Target brand heavy chip-prone white plates are not doing us any favors lol

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@zenbible That's good to know!! Microwave isn't a huge deal, since i don't microwave plastic either so plastic doesn't have an advantage over SS in that respect. I suppose porcelain does. Thank you for the link!

@sferber I guess outgrew is a strong word! We got real serious suction plates. He was one of those "if it moves, it's on the floor" babies. It took me four suction plates to find one that locked in place hard enough. Now he is 2 and is making decisions and learning, and it's really important to...

    Random questions about formula feeding!

@clarinetscore unless your doctor/ob/pediatrician recommends RTF, you can use powder. On risk - yes the powder isn't technically sterile, but that risk is honestly about on par with lightning striking. The major "risk" from powder formula is that you have to prepare it 8x a day in the...

    Can we overfeed our babies?

@mightyheart Get a new doctor. Your current one is talking out his ass. If he's giving you this bad advice right now, what kind of nonsense is he going to tell you when it's time for solids? When your kid is older? It's fortunate that baby's so young, you can establish care with someone else...

Toddler plates & bowls - Plastic? "Bamboo" (aka melamine)? Actual bamboo/wood? Something else? What does your family use?

@joyung Haha that is a very positive review!! Thank you! I got the feeling I've just been using bad, heavy, cheap plates (lol)

@dbaileys Maybe!! He loves to unload stainless pan lids from the dishwasher so I'm sure he wouldn't object to a plate. I didn't even know they existed. This thread has given me many helpful options to consider.
