Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@n1gger Spoke with our doctor this morning. He also suggested considering switching places. Can you tell me more about why you think taking her out is best? Do you think it's damaging her by sending her when I know she's so upset so much? I really struggle to know if it's just one of those...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@acedeck Just spoke with our doctor a bit ago and this was actually something he brought up too. Hadn't really considered it before, but maybe we should. It's tough because we know she's really connected with one teacher especially, and they're all so lovely there, and we've already gone through...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@harryuser Aw man, that's so sad :( I guess sometimes it just comes down to personality too, and how much they crave connection and closeness with their parents.

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@sifiso Mhmm, I've chatted with that teacher quite a bit, but she doesn't seem to have much more insight. I think her energy and personality are more close to mine than the others, which would make sense my girl is drawn to that. Also, when we were doing our slow transition, this teacher would...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@andybrooks Mhmm, I wish her "key" teacher could be there all the time for her. But sometimes she just has to tend to other kids (4:1 ratio when all kids are in attendance, though it's usually less than that), and sometimes she's away for being sick or whatnot. I'm grateful that they are...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@sifiso If only we could know. I have asked, and they have a few insights but mostly it's unknown. I think it's mostly about being away from me? But I'm wondering if it's actually that she's just not so sure about one of the teachers or something. Maybe she just feels a bit unsettled/uncertain...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@shonspawnel true about the multiple "Mondays" vs. just one. Other kids are mostly full time, though some are part time. They do the same activities pretty much every day (well, same routine, different variations while maintaining familiarity). But ya I don't think that's something even on her...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@dorothymckenzie Right, that's a good point. Depends on the kid. To be honest, I'm not sure what she'd do better with! I don't want to change it on her too much at least. But I do wonder what would be better for her. Our doctor figures 3 in a row can be a bit much for them at this age, by day 3...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@azark Hm, thank you for bringing this up! I hadn't thought about switching who does drop-off... another thing to think about! That said, I don't know if my husband will be able to do it consistently, given his work schedule, but we could discuss it. That said, we've gotten to a point where...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@rwfender1 True. And it is possible, but I don't know if more days is the answer, especially since I can't do shorter or half-days. There is something to be said for keeping it familiar and avoiding long stretches away, so I'll give it more thought. But from what I've read and our doctor's...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@sky12345 I think that's a great idea, just not compatible with my job :(

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@hjm1952mar19 That makes sense. Initially, the daycare suggested considering having her full time to get more into a daily routine of it. I really don't think that's the way to go, though -- the research I've seen and our doctor's insights suggest part-time is best if we can, which we can. Given...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@daphne1 Oh wow that's so interesting about the time away then loving it when he came back. Man, don't you wish we could just know exactly what's going on in their brains?! I think that's beautiful about the explaining. I try to do this with my girl as much as I can. I haven't framed it the...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@andybrooks Good point. And I love the idea of half days but every week day. I just with that was compatible with my job. The teachers' communication has been great. They don't have any solid takes on the situation, only guesses. She has had some happy days, so that's been encouraging, but I...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@guevaraj Thank you so much for all your suggestions! And the validation. It IS so hard. I love the idea for acting out/practicing moments in the day with toys. Books have helped us talk about it too, so that's a good idea to do more of that. I actually made her a book myself with pictures of...

Still not adjusted at daycare after over 3 months -- help!

@delightintheway Honestly I kind of love that idea, especially since it's shorter chunks of time apart, but my job wouldn't allow it. I'm a teacher on call, and while half-days do sometimes come up, they aren't common and certainly not reliable.
