Should we wait after the PhD?

@dvv1cft I’m finishing my PhD in may 2024 too. What does he want to do after? You could mention to him that it might be easier if you had the baby in the summer if he’s going for a teaching job to give him some extra time to bond and help you before classes. In my case, fwiw, we are waiting...

    How do people afford kids????

@mercifulwoman She had a bunch of different plans ranging from a one time meeting to monthly meetings for a year. It’s been like 4 years though so I can’t remember, sorry!! We were making significantly less money though (students) at the time so it couldn’t have been more than like $100 for the...

    How do people afford kids????

@mercifulwoman We saw one who literally just helped us break down critically where our money was going and discuss where we could be saving, it was great. The difference may be we saw a financial planner not a financial advisor. I think she was an accountant?

    How do people afford kids????

@angelica009 Ah nice! I don’t know the details but mine (US) has one where you can put pre tax dollars into some sort of childcare fund that my coworkers like

    Can anyone else relate?

@jlhargus I teach at the university level so it would be nearly impossible to get a tenure track job again if I took a few years off. Fortunately I do love it though.

    Can anyone else relate?

@jlhargus Ooo thank you for the greens suggestion, looking into that now! I’m using the brand SmartyPants because I need methylated folate, but I’ve heard good things about Pink Stork and Thorne too. I’ve also made a couple of Pinterest boards, some for nursery some for older kid things like...

    Can anyone else relate?

@jlhargus I relate 100%! I’m also an educator so our timeline is about lined up with yours. Sooo many pregnancy announcements lately and while I’m happy it’s a little heartbreaking somehow and I feel bad for feeling that way. Things that have helped me: * starting prenatal vitamins * getting...

Fears around pregnancy & having a newborn due to chronic illness and pain

@nuresearcher I have chronic pain and definitely worry about this. I’m trying to keep up with my exercises and plan to try to strategize when picking nursery furniture (ex: a changing table at a good height so that I have a place to change baby where I’m not bending over awkwardly).
