    @diancuk The militant "no supplementing" people.

    breastfeeding 2 day old

    @quangqui007 I fed often from the breast and supplemented with formula. My milk didn't come in until day 5 and I didn't want my baby to be miserable until then.

    @divinemarissa She is seeing what she wants to see.

    breastfeeding 2 day old

    @agapeos1080 Did you read that whole study? It says overfeeding on day 1 is considered 30 or more. As I stated 5 ml is not enough - but 20-29 ml (according to your source) is within the adequate expected.

    breastfeeding 2 day old

    @agapeos1080 This is talking about obesity, not what volume is needed to hydrate and grow.

    breastfeeding 2 day old

    @agapeos1080 As a nicu nurse with a science based degree, I disagree. Show me the evidence.

    Nurse suggested diluting formula as measure against constipation in 7-week old - is this as bad of an idea as I think?

    @emily1994 A baby would not die from a tiny bit of extra water. We're obviously not talking two extra ounces of water in each bottle.

    breastfeeding 2 day old

    @jimishasmom The "tiny tummy" theory is often told to new parents by lactation consultants and nurses in mother/infant. I don't believe it's science based. Even nicu babies who are first born are expected to take 20-30 ml. After day 2 they're expected to take 45-60 ml already.

    Giving Away Baby Formula to Parents in the US

    @anniedee How is it dangerous?

    @hurrix That makes sense but it sounds like OP is already back in the states.

    Giving Away Baby Formula to Parents in the US

    @hurrix She only brought 2 of each so I don't know. Maybe she has 1 young baby and 1 older baby. Especially with the formula shortage, I doubt they'd question 8 boxes of formula.

    Giving Away Baby Formula to Parents in the US

    @jelizgasha How can they prove it's not for personal use?

    Giving Away Baby Formula to Parents in the US

    @jelizgasha Why? It's not illegal.

    Nurse suggested diluting formula as measure against constipation in 7-week old - is this as bad of an idea as I think?

    @mobai This doesn't happen with tiny amounts of water. Electrolyte imbalance would not be caused by 1 ounce of extra water daily. A parent diluting every bottle by 50% would be a medical emergency. 5 ml in each bottle would not.

    Nurse suggested diluting formula as measure against constipation in 7-week old - is this as bad of an idea as I think?

    @caowen Thanks. I do understand that and also realize that unfortunately many us adults can't read very well. I recall hearing the average reading level is around 8th grade, I think. But it is frustrating for parents and adult patients to be given an absolute like this and perhaps not even...

    Nurse suggested diluting formula as measure against constipation in 7-week old - is this as bad of an idea as I think?

    @greenie123 I don't know what happened with my formatting above! This is unfortunately another example of a type of fear mongering from medical professionals and the government. I see it often, where instead of proper guidance and education on reasonable things, parents are told to not do it...

    Nurse suggested diluting formula as measure against constipation in 7-week old - is this as bad of an idea as I think?

    @greenie123 It depends how much she was talking about. An extra ounce in each bottle is too much. 5-10 ml in a 4 oz bottle is negligible. So I would hope the nurse gave specific amounts and cautioned the mother on the risks of giving more than instructed.

    HepB Vaccine for Newborn

    @iamstefanie Great info! I think she just means 40 weeks gestation - so if she deliveres at 37 weeks, she's asking if she should wait 3 weeks. The answer is a resounding "no".

    @kew Soy is usually worse for constipation, actually. A hydrolyzed formula is often better for constipated babies.
