Pediatrician says I’m nursing my 4 week old too often - not sure what to do

@christopher000 My second had very fast weight gain early on and nursed a lot. Both the pediatrician and the lactation consultant thought it was great, warned that her weight gain would probably be slow later on (it was,) and said to nurse on demand. Nursing on demand if possible is standard...

    Daycare says Cloth Diapers Uncomfortable

@trevorkian That's annoying. How do they know your baby is uncomfortable anyway? (I mean there are reasons you could tell, but you'd see them at home.) I think the teachers just don't want to deal with cloth. I'd be curious what they said to the other kid's parent. If you get a chance, ask...

    Close Before You Doze!

@bel13 Not locked like it needs a key, but child proof handle on the inside starting when they can open the door on their own and ending when they can be safe. For my kid that was between 2 and 3, but external doors were childproof until around 5. Some kids may never need this. If I was...

    I almost lost my 4 y.o. Today

@opoku I agree, but where I am you often need a referral from a pediatrician to access a lot of mental health services. I started to type a longer thing of what I'd hope the pediatrician would do and then needed to move on, so hoped someone else would specify or they have a good pediatrician.

    I almost lost my 4 y.o. Today

@hisvictor That's so scary! I would recommend searching for tracking devices for kids with autism. (I am not saying I think your kid has autism. I just think that enough families of kids with autism would need some kind of tracker that it would probably be good search terms to find what you...

Overhead Coworkers B*tching About My Pump Sessions

@sierra98loveretail I'm sorry that happened to you. I do hope you continue pumping and don't let cruel gossip make parenting decisions for you. Telling HR and confronting them are reasonable reactions, but it's also okay if you choose not to address it especially if it's not an ongoing issue...

    Close Before You Doze!

@adrienne I work in schools and we have firefighters come and do safety programs every year. They spend a lot of time trying to convince kids to be brave and close their door at night, because it significantly slows spread. It's much easier to get kids used to that when they are young.

So glad we did cloth diapers - r/all had a room full of disposable diapers

@jonahjr My plan was to combo, but the combo ended up way more in favor of cloth than disposables than I thought it would.

7 year old using the N word

@uncle_ayman Kids don't know unless someone teaches them. And yep, super effective if a bunch of people who usually are just super nice to you tell you something is not okay. That happened a couple times to me when I was a kid for various things and I never did any of them again.

7 year old using the N word

@chakra12 So the good news is that she is 7 not 17, so she is just repeating it from somewhere. I would be very concerned about WHERE she picked up the word. (Not because I don't expect my kid to pick up profanity from various places, but because I would be concerned about what sentiments that...

Am I overreacting to my non-mom friends saying “just pump!” ?

@ckatiejo I totally get why you are annoyed. Pumping sucks. It especially sucks if it's not part of your usual routine. This is my second baby, but with my first that would have meant hauling my pump home from work and setting it up who knows where. It means washing pump parts. It means a...

    Lanolizing wool

@dsilvain About the same amount with about a tsp of euclin wool wash. I stopped measuring and adjust if I am doing more items or want it more lanolized.

    Lanolizing wool

@dsilvain I don't know the difference between modified and natural. If it is sticky, you either over lanolize or did not have enough emulsifier, BUT good news is that it doesn't matter. Breastfeeding mind use lanolin on their nipples before nursing newborns, so a little on their skin is...

    Non-plastic cloth diaper brands?

@jayrashman Some people gave you some suggestions, but you might find that wool covers (if you aren't vegan) with a cotton diaper underneath may be your preferred option. It would be worth looking into and getting one (used works great even if they have some wear!) to try out.

Im an au pair/nanny and need advice!

@kazurk You could try documenting what she is doing while she is playing independently. There are some reasons to do that (not to excess) like looking for patterns or communicating with the parents, but also it may look like you are doing something. Otherwise, I'd just be present and...

Barnyard smell, lots of detergent, soft water

@gne5 I don't really have good advice, but if you have soft water, I'd skip the washing soda. I use it for my hard water, as it is a water softener.

Thirsties Sale at Green Mountain Diapers

@rishley Get an assortment of diapers to try out and then look for more of your favorite. At first, I preferred velcro (easier to adjust right and quicker to do) but my husband preferred snaps. In larger sizes (like Duo Wrap 2) it is not contest - you need snaps, because baby can pull off the...
