People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@nggondez Yeah the fear is real in the sense that you feel it. But like you said it's important to know it's not based On reality yet and it's not logical and especially not a premonition. If you actually say these things to yourself these things are called intrusive thoughts and there are good...

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@michael1981 I am not and honestly the way you wrote that sounds pretty condescending to me. I am not emotional writing this - and if there is an emotion involved - it's anger about the way you responded. Initially I was just trying to point out that catastrophizing something you have not...

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@michael1981 I never said anything about a contest. It's insensitive to call infertility the worst case scenario, when you actually have no idea how it feels - in a space where other people live in what you call the "worst case scenario"

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@michael1981 You know there are people living here with that "worst case scenario"? It's a bit insensitive. Also you might need to read this:

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@pdj It's pretty clear. You assumed fertility issues, mentioned your assumptions while they were discussing fertility treatments, got a verbal slap in the face. You can't just assume that. Irregular cycles can still be ovulatory. Which you don't know until it's investigated. Concerns is not...

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@pdj I was saying it's confirmation bias. Because even having PCOS does not mean infertility for the majority of people with PCOS. I also had the same valid concerns and ended up with a PCOS diagnosis.. but that's not causing our infertility at all. Saying I had this feeling and look out turned...

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@pdj Having symptoms that warrant a check with a doctor is totally valid. But what your describing is typical confirmation bias. For everyone that is there that is worried most of them will conceive quickly anyway (like the people OP talks about). And there are tons of people who don't think...

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@shudew It's called confirmation bias. A gut feeling is not a tool to see the future. Like 90% of the people with only a feeling like this will get pregnant (like the normal % of the population). There are also quite a lot of people who don't expect issues and end up with severe ones.

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@rawralphadawg Being 40 means pretty much straight to IVF in most situations

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@zindebaad The fear is real and valid. But it's an audience thing too. One person's "worst fear" being the other person's reality

Optimizing natural fertility: review of recommendations

@mcg1102 Thank you for this. Shouldn't there be also mention of weight affecting the male fertility?

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@raymond723 It literally says: "Infertility may be used synonymously with sterility"
  15. S

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@raymond723 that second source is defining infertility as sterility, which is really not the consensus

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@raymond723 But these are actual medical terms. You can't just appropriate them because you feel good about them? Our official diagnosis is "male subfertility" (and more specifically serve OAT) in other regions they would call it MFI. We actually needed to go straight to IVF because we fall in...

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@raymond723 Look from the beginning I said that this was depending on region and I was just pointing out that they can be used to mean the same thing: trying >12 years. I already posted a guideline. Here's another one using subfertile (btw they use both terms interchangeable)...

@raymond723 Reddit is only 50% (49,3% to be exact) from the US *shrug* But yeah, there are many american's that's why from the beginning I said regional... Being a bit less US-centered minded has never done anybody harm.

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@kuzipj that's why in my initial comment I already said this was regional.

People who “diagnose” themselves with fertility issues before they even start trying

@kuzipj but with more than a year of trying you already have an infertility diagnosis? Infertility does not mean sterile either? For example unexplained infertility has a 40% to conceive unassisted within the second year of trying. There is no real consensus on the terms either. Like I said...
