I’ve had a fever every day for 8 days and I’m so pissed off.

@gina Last time I felt like this I had Pneumonia. You need lots and lots of rest! I missed 3 weeks of work to properly recover. Every time I thought I was better, I'd try to be normal and then get worse again. It wasn't until I rested for a solid 5 days that I started to turn for the better...

Do people with kids work *harder*?

@whitm11 I think it comes down to work ethic more than anything and I do think that the 20 somethings have less work ethic in general. There are still hard working people at all ages and life stages, no doubt, but in my experience the current cohort of 20 somethings is not as high in...

those who don’t live near family: how do you spend your vacations?

@1stjohn0666 My husband's family is local so that helps but we also sometimes vacation with his parents and sister as well because we enjoy being all together. We visit my family at minimum 2 x a year and are going to visit a bit more this year because my brother is having another baby and I...

Do people with kids work *harder*?

@jcox64 This is key! Work smart and efficiently to get shit done. It's not something that everyone does well. I see this a lot as a manager, I feel like I have to teach it a lot more than I used to - multi-tasking, time management etc. it's an art not a science.

    Taking on my girlfriend’s kids

@katiefutty1 Kids at these ages are just exhausting. Even if they were your own kids they would be exhausting and frustrating. Yes, you'd maybe have more flexibility in how you parent if they were yours and my advice is that if you are serious about her and in it for the long term, then talk to...

It’s official… I was let go from my job yesterday, 7 months pregnant

@robertjjones This is definitely a blessing in disguise although I know hard right now! In this case, I would definitely look at your legal options for discrimination. And if you haven't already, do not sign anything just yet!!! Have a lawyer look at it first. Don't let them bully you into...

OPINIONS WANTED - evaluating this maternity leave policy (in the U.S.)

@yarnknitting This is similar to what I took for both my kids and how it worked out. I did 20 weeks, the last 6 weeks were unpaid both times. It was great, basically as good as it gets in the US.

School lottery blues- I guess we messed up!

@deano1 I'd look into getting her into prek now part time for the rest of this year and see if you can then stay for K. Also find out about a waiting list. Where I am waiting lists move quite a bit, so it's always worth a try!

OPINIONS WANTED - evaluating this maternity leave policy (in the U.S.)

@isaiah9six I'm Canadian but I live in NY now and quite a few of my friends had a lot of credit card debt after their 1 year maternity leave. I don't think people realize the financial burden it is to take that year off with the pay cut. Sure some people save on childcare too, but there are...
