My 2.5 year old is a DICTATOR and it’s hurting our relationship

@onlyjesus316 I hold the door ALL the time against my son, and I find it to be a very useful strategy as it is a visual representation of the boundary. For instance, our morning routine is get out of crib, diaper change, change into day clothes. I literally hold the door closed until he...

Does your toddler play independently when they wake up in the morning?

@carrie1973 Friggin toddlers. They really will do anything to avoid sleep.

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@ninjatastic Yup, Baby Sleep Science explains https://www.babysleepscience.com/amp/2014/03/04/daylight-savings-time-transition-for-toddlers It’s especially noticeable in your kiddo bc he’s right in between 1 and 2 naps, so on 2 nap days he will have plenty of energy to fight you at bedtime. So...

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@ninjatastic Any time sleep is derailed he’s gonna be sleeping less and build up a sleep debt. That’s just….. math? Undertiredness is a made up term. There’s absolutely zero way kid can have frequent night wakings from “undertiredness”, bc when the kid is awake he/she isn’t getting sleep and...

My 2.5 year old is a DICTATOR and it’s hurting our relationship

@onlyjesus316 Can I just say that you did absolutely the right thing in telling him to be quieter, and his response actually shows that he 1) has the emotional regulation to respond in something other than rage and 2) has the empathy to realize he’s causing you discomfort? This is something to...

9 month old won’t sleep at daycare!

@caminator I can only think of two ways in which you can make that ridiculous daycare schedule work for a 9mo: -wake up 9A, nap #1 12-2, nap #2 5-530 (cap), bedtime 9-930p -wake up 6A, nap #1 9-930 (cap), nap #2 12-2, bedtime 6p Both schedules are incredibly challenging for working parents...

Does your toddler play independently when they wake up in the morning?

@carrie1973 Complete black-out, crib, and schedule that allows him enough sleep. If he is sleep deprived he will wake up crying. He's almost 2 now. Morning behavior depends on how tired he is and what stage he's going through. We had a few weeks of singing and pretend playing with his daycare...

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@ninjatastic Yeah it’s the time change + last WW naturally getting longer. I’d push bedtime to later to eliminate the crying and help him fall asleep calmly, and then start shortening the second nap gradually so you can bring bedtime up again.

Advice for getting out of false start hell?

@winwon Yeah that's overtired. Try an early bedtime to see if it helps. She's probably got enough sleep pressure to handle a shorter last WW.

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@ninjatastic Hey glad to hear from you, and glad to hear things are going great!!! I didn't have time or energy to retype the nap transition post, and honestly I'd like a better venue for some of my observations re: sleep (honestly a book format probably works best). Don't really have time to...

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@another7 Keep doing those 4 nap WWs, but cap that last nap and shorten last WW so you have bedtime 745 and DWT 645. Try to extend the first three naps as much as you can. On days when third nap ends after 430, you can probably skip 4th nap and just bring bedtime up a bit to 715. If even with...

Advice for getting out of false start hell?

@winwon Schedule sounds solid. How long after bedtime does the false start happen, and how long does it take you to get her back to sleep? I would experiment with moving bedtime up a bit (try 8). I think the false starts are due to insufficient daytime sleep, especially on daycare days. An...

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@another7 7-8p bedtime and 6:45 wake up sound reasonable. She's closer to the 4-3 transition than she is to the 3-2 transition. 1.75 hour first WW seems good. I'd shorten subsequent wake windows to 1.75 hours if she's seeming tired and offer a 4th nap with assistance (stroller, contact). Keep...

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@another7 How long are each of her 3 naps on that schedule? Is she going down for naps assisted or independently? What time is out of crib time and bedtime?

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@stageandgrace Sleep debt still. Sleep pressure is light at that hour so your attempts to resettle him just riled him up. I'd just CIO. At this age some babies just can't be resettled by parents at that hour. We used to be able to get a contact snooze during EMWs but that stopped happening...

The March to 1 Nap: A Practical Guide to Baby Nap Transitions (4m-18m-ish)

@stageandgrace Total wake time was too long and bedtime was too late when you switched over. That’s why he’s waking up early. It totally common and a pain in the butt. We basically had to do naps earlier and multiple early bedtimes a week to cap up. It’s just a slow, painful process—took a few...

Baby going to doctors tomorrow during nap time. What to do?

@rdliid It's just one day so whatever you do will be fine. Relax! Plop him down for an early bedtime if the naps go horribly wrong and he ends up a mess.

Feedback request for sleep training plan for 6 m/o!

@kisame2602 What Comprehensive_Bill said about bedtime training and not putting baby asleep once you start. Honestly as right now you're getting him to fall asleep with 2-5 minutes of back rubbing, I don't think you'll have a problem. He should be able to fall asleep on his own with

Raising child trilingual (OPOL) when parents don’t speak each others language

@pollyton We're in a pretty similar situation (Mandarin + Russian so also two VERY different languages, English is the community language). Our son is 22mo so similar age to yours as well. I'm a bit baffled by what you mean by competing over the child's attention. Maybe your son is just more...
