    @eliyahu777 Maybe the blank stare means "duh!" It could be that there's no need to say "mama." You are there for her. You take care of her needs. If she wants to show you something, she'll just show it. Etc. No need to address you by "name." Some kids are pretty pragmatic.

    @rccocina I personally don't think so. I was actually raised calling my parents by their first names (my younger sister was not) and still do. Their explanation later on was that they were not used to being parents, used their first names among themselves, and never thought of changing this...

    @godfavorme That's a great point. She knows two families with two moms but we are not super close, and I don't think she's ever heard their kids talk about their moms. But who knows.

    About a month ago, our then 23-m-o started sometimes referring to us as "daddy [first name]" and "mama [first name]" seemingly out of nowhere. And now when she's talking to one of us about the other parent, it's just the first name: "Where'd go?" "Who?" "[Other parent's first name]" I think...
