Can’t Lose the Damn Weight - 2 Years Postpartum

@morirach I (small, inactive, history of sub-clinical EDs) had really good luck with noom. It’s goofy and basic—I think a lot of people expect it to be some sort of scientific conference, and it’s totally not. It’s counting calories/food log plus some stickers for reading about drinking water...

How do u set up playdates for 3year old?

@eutychus2018 my second kid is a social butterfly, kids are just different! First kid also got way more interested in peers around age 4, he's a happy and social 8yo who is very well liked, makes friends easily.

How do u set up playdates for 3year old?

@eutychus2018 Honestly...if your kid isn't (yet) super social with peers, and they go to daycare every day, I'd just let it be. My older one was like that, when we'd do things with other kids he'd totally ignore them. Very awkward for the parents lol. I suspect your kid will warm up to other...

How did my mom do it

@j2019 How old is your kid? How old are you? How old was your mom when she had you? The mom I remember was the mom of two elementary school kids, not two little kids. She was also a lot older than me…I always remind her that I have another 8 years, or at least until my little guy is in...

Do people with kids work *harder*?

@whitm11 Not I. I do good work during the hours I'm paid for and communicate so people know what to expect.

How to not be irrationally resentful at husband for getting full sleep every night?

@steveepperson Man so long ago…I think we usually flipped a coin/stated an arbitrary preference for 10-2 or 2-6? We did that for a while when baby was waking up every 2h and needed a whole diaper change and everything. Our second one was usually pretty sleepy at night and went right back to...

How to not be irrationally resentful at husband for getting full sleep every night?

@steveepperson I would be resentful if that doesn’t change. My husband is a surgeon who works 80+ hrs/week. We did shifts when my baby was small. Do I do the majority of the night work? Yes. But he’s a parent too, he can wake up once/night so I’m not totally trashed.

Preschool Problem -- Is it worth it?

@ballofconfusion Preschool and daycare are like 95% overlapping, and basically 100% as it concerns school readiness, assuming your provider reads books, has them do fine motor activities, etc. Nothing to feel bad about!

    a question of entitlement

@sandyoriane No, I have never gotten any sense that he would rather be home with the sick kids.

2 Demanding Jobs: Nanny or Daycare?

@1stjohn0666 Stick with your nanny. I’m all about daycare but you already have a reservations, and your nanny sounds reliable.

    a question of entitlement

@kezia Oh this is a whole big thing in my house. My husband is a doc who can’t work from home so it’s obvious that I will be the one with the kids, but I expect a moderately big deal to be made of my courageous sacrifice lol. Failure to fawn over me will result in very grumpy sniping for the...

those who don’t live near family: how do you spend your vacations?

@1stjohn0666 We did exclusively trips to visit family during residency, with a handful of short driving/weekend trips just us and the kids. It is way cheaper and easier to go somewhere to visit/meet up with grandparents. They also travel to us regularly so it’s not one-sided, and it’s a...

Seeking advice about having 3 kids in daycare!

@chillcwill We have lots of families at our daycare with 3! I’m sure their lives are hectic but it’s hectic for everyone haha

Should I switch my 5 year olds pre k from play based to structured?

@caa55 I definitely wouldn't switch, if you like his school currently. It sounds like they have structured and unstructured time, which is great.

Husband job offer - more money, less flexibility

@uberdoo And it’s just a lot of movement/upheaval for a small kid. I would say my 3.5yo is overall very happy in care, but adjusting to new adults short term is going to be a challenge for him.

Husband job offer - more money, less flexibility

@scooper8 We’re at a private preschool, public elementary is a different schedule. Our district’s public preschool follows the same schedule as the rest of the district.

Husband job offer - more money, less flexibility

@scooper8 I would probably stick with your daycare if your husband wants to take the job. I cannot imagine you’ll save any money unless the public pre-k has an affordable before/after school program. Also, look at summer camps in your area and what age they start at. Spots for 3s and 4s can...

Daycare operating on a “first-come-first-served” basis?

@lostsoul_ Our daycare has had staffing issues. We have a volunteer list where you can say you have flexible needs and they will call down the list and ask if you’d be willing to keep your kid home that day (and not pay). First come first serve is annoying. Staffing challenges are reality...
