We are water safety experts from the National Drowning Prevention Alliance! Ask us anything about keeping kids safe near water!

@prepared4all I saved a preschooler who was starting to drown a few years back. They were vertical in water over their head and starting to bob to the surface with a look of terror in their eyes and then go under. I noticed within a couple of bobs and fortunately I was really close by and able...

    Positive stories!

@pentzbar000 People come online to complain. I'm going to jinx myself, but my kids are terrific. My older daughter (age 11) is so smart, so thoughtful, and so compassionate and helpful. She makes up games specifically so that she can play with her little sister (age 2). She likes cooking and...

Lotus pack n play being on the floor

@joshuason We don't have experience with this pack n' play. I think that my main concern with it being on the ground would be heat transfer. We do a fair amount of camping and the ground can be cold. I've been contemplating the peapod travel bed... which also sits on the ground... and I think...

If I Could Send a Shopping List Back in Time

@vadadell I hear you on local buy-nothing groups. It's too bad that COVID cases are extremely high in my area... I'm not willing to risk going out in public unless absolutely necessary. With our first, we got a lot of baby gear from thrift stores and Craigslist... We have a big gap and with this...

    Baby swing

@bustinjustin We have a Graco swing that is similar to the Fisher Price one. Our 3 week old is neutral on it. She’s a bigger fan of the bouncer (we have one by ingenuity). And honestly- I lay her down on a playmat on the floor more than anywhere else. The daycare we used for our first daughter...

Sometimes I feel like I am just bankrolling my husband’s identity crisis

@goldensleather He should look into government jobs... maybe the department of public health for your state or county or the CDC. Many of these jobs in my state have good pay, predictable 9-5 hours, good benefits, and generous leave time. Some have a pension and are unionized.

Waterproof gloves that aren’t too bulky? For 4 year old

@ruatruechristian I found the stretchy (not at all waterproof) ones in 2 packs of toddler sizes at Dollar General/ Family Dollar a couple of times. My kid was literally losing a pair of gloves a week in kindergarten before we bought the coat clips (early clue that she has ADHD) so at a certain...

Waterproof gloves that aren’t too bulky? For 4 year old

@ruatruechristian 4-6 year old sizes in gloves and mittens are so hard to find, in my experience. My daughter didn’t fit into the ubiquitous cheap stretchy gloves unless they were toddler size/ which I could only find in sets with hats. The other option was good waterproof gloves or mittens that...

Waterproof gloves that aren’t too bulky? For 4 year old

@ruatruechristian Rain mittens? They look to be easier to “do things” in because they are fairly thin material.

Why does everyone love the IKEA high chairs?

@chris77777 Good to know. We wanted one for our first daughter because it's a single piece of plastic so it looks to be easy to clean, but we procrastinated on getting a high chair and then suddenly had a baby who really needed to start solids and didn't really have the time to make a trip out...
