How to support a gifted child?

@aegisheart Former gifted child here (I was tested as having a 9th grade reading level in 2nd grade), who is now an anxious mess of an adult. And despite having a PhD and a great career will always feel like a failure compared to the hype I received as a kid because o haven’t like…. I dunno...

    Waiting for the right time..

@badone I had my only at 35. It was the perfect time for me. Pregnancy is so wildly different for every woman I can’t tell you if you will be able to travel while pregnant or not. I would plan on not being able to do anything and then be pleasantly surprised if you wind up with one of those...

Roxane Gay is unsuited to write a work column

@runaway887 I jumped shit on academia because it’s fucking awful. I’ve never been expected to work so much for so little in literally any other work place.

Took a job 6 months ago that is hybrid. (Advertised 2 days a week) and they just announced they are going back to fully in office

@americanvet I didn’t get a promised bonus in my offer letter for my last job too, after stellar performance reviews. That’s why I’m now working for a government agency even though I could make more in industry. I’m sick of these shady fuckers in private industry. Lots to critique about working...

Took a job 6 months ago that is hybrid. (Advertised 2 days a week) and they just announced they are going back to fully in office

Oh and PS- if you are requiring people to be in office five days a week, then you damn well better be paying them enough to afford living within a 20 minute commute if the office building. ETA I think a lot of older managers aren’t realizing how mich of the push for remote work is a response to...

Took a job 6 months ago that is hybrid. (Advertised 2 days a week) and they just announced they are going back to fully in office

@agnetha1988 I also hustled, starting working before it was legal for me to be doing so, worked multiple jobs my entire education (I have a PhD so that was 11 years), and you know what? I bitched about MOST of my jobs and most of my bosses. If tik tok existed then I have no doubt I would have...

Took a job 6 months ago that is hybrid. (Advertised 2 days a week) and they just announced they are going back to fully in office

@agnetha1988 You should look at some actual data about wfh productivity instead of basing an entire argument on some videos on the internet of young people complaining about their jobs- that is not a new phenomenon, only the ability to share their complaints so widely is new. You’ve forgotten...

Took a job 6 months ago that is hybrid. (Advertised 2 days a week) and they just announced they are going back to fully in office

@kiteria I wfh and still use childcare. I think most wfh moms do. We just don’t have a commute and can work in yoga pants. What you’re describing was a situation unique to lockdown during the pandemic that was very hard on working parents but isn’t a problem anymore

Oh and also lazy managers. If you don’t want to actually pay attention to what your team is producing you can just look for butts in seats.

@ilkhanapit I genuinely think it’s because boomers hate their personal lives at home, and a lot of rich people are scared of commercial buildings losing their value
