My kid is 3 and I’m unwell.

@3007 Mine is also 3. All I can think of is how much this feeling will magnify when she’s 13 or 30.

@gvdanandaraj It’s all about the threenagers.

Cosleeping vs bed sharing for 4 month old

@fangorn It’s not different. The only difference is that the choice to formula feed is widely accepted and protected (it is the cultural norm in the US) and bed-sharing is widely taboo and shunned (which frankly increases the risk around bed-sharing and sleep deprivation anyways). Both choices...

Cosleeping vs bed sharing for 4 month old

@alangeh There’s also a 3-11x (mind you surface-sharing is 3x increased risk when no risk factors are controlled) increase of risk for SIDS when not room-sharing before 6 months, but this is NEVER cited as a cause/risk for SIDS in the online safe sleep discussion.

Any articles on car seat time limit safety? Husband wants to take 6 m y/o on 25 hour trrip

@inhiminen I don’t judge. I commented that we left in the early hours of the morning for road trips so that our daughter would sleep for at least a few hours of the trip. I just wanted others to know that there still is a risk to it and to be vigilant even if their child is a little older.

Any articles on car seat time limit safety? Husband wants to take 6 m y/o on 25 hour trrip

@inhiminen Positional asphyxiation is a risk until at least 12 months. current guidelines even recommend caution up to 24 months of age.

Any articles on car seat time limit safety? Husband wants to take 6 m y/o on 25 hour trrip

@jn8campos I agree. Especially with this much notice they could probably even get tickets now for cheap on a payment program like uplift and have them paid off by the trip.

    Sidecar VS adding a mattress

@overground55 If cost and space were no issue I’d add a mattress on the floor. It’s safer. I’m not going to say there is no way to make a side car crib safer, but if there’s ever an option between handy rigging something (side car cribs are a DIY) for your child’s safety and simply using...

"Cry it out" is not a well-defined term

@the_precious_one It’s also totally okay if your needs as a parent change with each baby.

"Cry it out" is not a well-defined term

@the_precious_one I always associate “Sleep training” with any targeted behavior model approach to sleep (Ferber, full extinction, sleep lady shuffle, etc.). Things like wake windows, bed time routines, etc I call “sleep hygiene”.

Cosleeping vs bed sharing for 4 month old

@ourvoyage Okay and the guidelines themselves still align with the evidence. I’ll also add that since then SS7 has been updated and adopted by public health organizations in other countries. The problematic conception of the guidelines doesn’t change that it is in fact supported by science. A...

"Cry it out" is not a well-defined term

@rockhopper72 I’ve been saying this too! It’s basically the co-sleep vs Bed-share vs surface-share debacle all over again.

"Cry it out" is not a well-defined term

@rockhopper72 I just think it’s funny that people do cite Holt and that quote as a credible source on the safety of CIO

Cosleeping vs bed sharing for 4 month old

@qody Can you share data that debunks safe sleep seven as “unscientific”? Becuase I can link the AAPs most recent article on safe sleep stats that outlines scaffolding risk factors that are directly in line the SS7.

"Cry it out" is not a well-defined term

@rockhopper72 The last source you quoted talks about newly born infants needing to cry for an hour for the health of their lungs. But on the other hand there is sufficient enough evidence against leaving babies to cry unnecessarily that the AAP states “sleep training” is not recommended before 6...

Any articles on car seat time limit safety? Husband wants to take 6 m y/o on 25 hour trrip

@freckledwilding The point is that either thing can happen. But a risk of it being a traumatic experience increases if one parent is not on the same page as the other about how often the car needs to be stopped to care for baby’s needs. And if you’re going to find out your child is like mine...

Any articles on car seat time limit safety? Husband wants to take 6 m y/o on 25 hour trrip

@umaid I hope it helps! In our case it was worth it for the memories/bonding with grandparents and it really wasn’t a super long drive. But for a trip that long for little benefit it might be setting you all up for some bad memories.

Any articles on car seat time limit safety? Husband wants to take 6 m y/o on 25 hour trrip

@umaid Okay. There’s plenty of evidence available and already posted in this thread about the positional risks. But here’s my personal anecdote: The first year of my daughters life we took a 7 hour drive every other month for her grandparents to see her. (They came on the other months to see...
